Well, I am not a MS teacher, but I have been putting giveaways on my blog for 2 weeks. I have also set up 10 pages (the limit on blogger) for various "static" pages. I have my calendar that I can update very easily from igoogle. I have several cool links that students can earn extra credit by visiting. Students are entered in the weekly giveaway once for every valuable comment to the blog. It is a new thing, but I hope that soon my students will really be able to run with it. AND: it is sooo much prettier than the school website. Check it out! www.srabowen.blogspot.com
Blogs are too cool. The possibilities of using them to interact with students and parents are endless. If you need some reasons for using them, check this out.
In order to utilize a blog, I have learned that you have to make some kind of bribe technique. This could include a gift card, or even money. This is a GREAT idea! Steve
I can see may possibilities for blogging in the reading classroom. We could blog about the novel we are reading in class. We could blog as a particular character from the book. We could use the blog as a character diary. I could see blogging really getting kids interested in books and reading.
This is too cool! I especially liked the screen capture for the smartboard. The editing/revising part of a writing sample will be extremely useful for my writing classes. I also will use resources you have provided so that I can set up my own blog.
Blogs are great to keep parents and students updated on what is going on in your classroom. It is especially helpful when a student is absent and needs to find out what they missed.
I could definitely blog about what I am reading. And students could also blog about what they are reading and we could have a virtual conversation about books.
Blogs are a great idea. I would enjoy communicating with the students in a format they are comfortable using. This would encourage student participation as well. Parents could join in and feel a part also.
